The city of Rome or „Roma” in Italian is the capital of Italy. This is a bustling, lively city and has numerous interesting historic places one of which is the Colosseum. This arena was intended to accommodate over fifty thousand spectators while the gladiators and animals such as lions did their job. The section underneath the Colosseum’s floor is an intricate design of confining areas and compartments that were created to allow human sacrifices, gladiators and animals gain access to the Colosseum without mingling together. Another great place to visit in this city is The Temples of Ancient Rome. Since the early Romans revered various gods and goddesses, they erected impressive temples to honor those that they feared (or praised) most. Another glorious site in Rome is The Pantheon. This is one of the most well-preserved places in the city and is the final burial site of the Renaissance painter Raphael. One should also make time to visit the Palatino or the Palatine Hill. You would find there ancient ruins of emperor’s authentic palaces. There are also four rooms from Augustus Caesar’s home in the Palatine Hill that are collectively known as The Octavian and just recently, have been opened for public viewing.
